I'm so done with Northwestern being "Chicago's Big Ten team". Not only is this illogical by the following critera: NU is not in Chicago, NU's alumni rank 8th in terms of alumni bases in Chicago (Ill, Mich, OSU, ND, etc, etc), Chicago is a STRONG pro sport city, and some others.
I know I have made this point before, and majority of alumni, fans really don't care, but it bothers me. NU has an AD that is ALL about marketing, hype, campaigns, redoing courts, facilities, and let's not forget academics and compliance. I want an AD that is focused on Big Ten Championships. I will completely concede that there is a chicken or egg situation with building hype, marketing the team brings in money which helps program which yields championships. I fully acknowledge that could be the plan, but to me, I'm not sure NU has that idea. It seems like it's about marketing and creating hype and not winning.
I want an university board of directors, president, AD, and coaches to have a goal of winning Big Ten Championships in every sport, within confines of keeping NU's goal of being solid academically and compliance. It is possible, see Stanford.
I just want to win at sports and not win at marketing, academics, and compliance.
