SIPPIN' ON PODCAST PODCAST PODCATS PURPLE EPISODE #006: YOU ARE HAILING TO THE WRONG COLOR W/JOE KUTSUNIS OF HAIL TO THE ORANGE

This is a podcast about Northwestern-Illinois, the bitter rivalry over a hat. We are joined by Joe Kutsunis of the lovely Hail to the Orange, one of the one Illinois blogs that appear to be in existence. We talk about why our schools don't really hate each other and why he enjoys Ron Zook, which no man should have to do.

But clearly the highlight of this podcast is the opening where Loretta and I discuss the Red Sox collapse, a time capsule from Monday. He discusses the Red Sox ongoing collapse and HAS NO CLUE WHAT'S ABOUT TO HAPPEN. If you've ever wondered what a man shaking hands with his own ghost sounds like, listen!

MUSIC

"Otis", Kanye West and Jay-Z: LORD PLEASE LET THEM ACCEPT THE THINGS THEY CAN'T CHANGE/AND PRAY THAT ALL OF THEIR PAIN BE CHAMPAIGN (Otis Redding scream). Such a vicious song, it's grown on me so damn much. Neither guy spits his finest - although, the "luxury rap, the Hermes of verses/sophisticated ignorance write my curses in cursive is absurd" - but what makes it great is you know you're listening to the two current greatest rappers literally just having fun trading bars and they know that they know it. It's cliche to sample Otis Redding but Kanye knows how to do it. I could write for a million years right now. Sidenote: every single thing they rap about could be true. Kanye may have an other other Benz and Jay-Z might have two of those big-faced Rolexes. That said, Jay-Z, you have never been to Havana. I have. Twice. Jay-Z is lying about the things that I do.

I obviously had to go with something Champaign related. For all the songs about champagne, it was surprisingly hard to pick a good one. I was gonna go with "No Sex (In the Champagne Room)", Chris Rock's "song" which is just him telling jokes, but Joe's podcast is called "The Champaign Room", so, beat me to it.

NOTES

You'll notice at one point music starts blasting and there's an awkward cut and Joe starts talking again after a few seconds about something totally different. Never record a podcast while in a fraternity house. The dude across the hall started booming stuff at two different points in the podcast and I had to go and tell him to turn it down for a few minutes because I'm recording.
