If the NCAA women's basketball tournament started today, Northwestern would be in the big dance, according to ESPN.com women's basketball bracketologist Charlie Creme.
Northwestern is no longer ranked, but they did receive votes in this week's USA Today Coaches Poll. Creme places the Wildcats as a 12 seed in the Greensboro region, where they play, you guessed it, Joe McKeown's former team, George Washington.
Northwestern is trending downard in Creme's bracketology following back-to-back losses to Iowa and Michigan. The Hawkeyes and Wolverines are 5 and 7 seeds, respectively, in Creme's bracket, which includes a total of eight Big Ten teams.
The depth of the Big Ten in women's basketball bodes well for Northwestern. Their conference schedule isn't too tough, but they have the opportunity to boost their resume with wins against ranked opponents, such as Minnesota, Nebraska and Rutgers.
It's way too early to be predicting NCAA tournament match-ups, but seeding is becoming more and more relevant. Here's a look at Northwestern's women's NCAA tournament projection from several other sites:
