Northwestern basketball received 60 votes in the most recent AP Poll, a jump up from the 11 votes the team received last week.
The Wildcats are coming off a 1-1 week in which they lost to Illinois at home but conquered Wisconsin on the road. Without leading scorer Scottie Lindsey, they are 1-2, but they showed incredible resilience and toughness against a tough Badger team at the Kohl Center.
Northwestern remains the fourth-highest ranked Big Ten team behind No. 11 Wisconsin which fell four spots, No. 16 Purdue, which stayed in its same position as last week, and No. 23 Maryland, which dropped two spots. There are no other Big Ten teams in the poll nor in the “Others Receiving Votes” column.
The 60 votes give Northwestern a de facto ranking of 28. Wichita State received 87 votes and Xavier received 72. Here is the entire poll.
Northwestern has another chance to improve its ranking with two contests this week: against Maryland and Rutgers, both at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
