Basketball commit - Jaren Sina

+

consensus 4-star huge commit

NU #1 in National APR

12

995 out of 1000. Say what you want about results and academics, but holy shit that's good. Tied with Davidson and above all the Ivies. Go 'Cats!

"He's a really, really, really good shooter"

Seth Davis's annual draft article where he complies anonymous quotes from various NBA scouts and GMs is up, and is much more insightful than last year's edition. The above quote is in reference to our very own John Shurna.

7'1" center Chier Ajou commits to NU

+

Not really sure who to link to for this, but so far it seems legit. 2 stars according to ESPN. But wow is he tall (7'1" or 7'2" depending on where you look). Here's hoping he clears admissions. https://twitter.com/KyleNeddenriep/status/213700935728365568 https://twitter.com/ChrisEmmaScout/status/213727056163373057 http://espn.go.com/college-sports/basketball/recruiting/player/_/id/98723/chier-ajou

Northwestern Day on Big Ten Network

+

Probably should have posted this last night or early this morning so the employed folk among us could have set their DVRs, but better late than never! Right now Northwestern's 2009 win over Ohio State in basketball is on, featuring John Shurna's game-winner (SPOILER ALERT). The rest of the schedule (all times central) 12:30: Big Ten Icons, Otto Graham 1 PM: 2011 Big Ten men's soccer title game 3 PM: Northwestern-Michigan State basketball from January 5 PM: Northwestern-Nebraska football from 2011 7 PM: Northwestern-Wisconsin football from 2000 9 PM: Northwestern-Michigan State football from 2001 I would particularly recommend those last two football games for some of our younger readers who didn't have the pleasure of watching NU legends like Zak Kustok and Damien Anderson.

I told Knicks fans why they should draft John Shurna

+

He worked out there a few weeks back, and I want the Knicks to draft John Shurna more than pretty much anything else.

For Finals Week

+

A countdown post on Quentin Williams later, but for now, check out Black Heart Gold Pants' Pro Combat post on Northwestern football. It's good and stuff. I'll go back to writing my paper on Shakespeare :(

Me at Maize N Brew

No NU football players wear No. 93 and we already covered Will Hampton, who wears No. 92, so here's this! We discuss stuff, like the secret lab under tech that builds hyper-accurate QB prototypes.

Another surgery for Persa

5

Not good. From the Trib, Persa's Achilles was at 65% during his tryout with the Buccaneers, and only 50% during the season. All the more credit to him for sticking it out through the year. All the best to Dan on his road to recovery.

Softball team takes down #6 Texas in first tourney game

+

Pretty big deal considering this team was 18-25 at one point this season. They won their last eight Big Ten games just to make it to .500 (which is necessary for postseason eligibility). The just made the tourney as the lowest ranked team in the Austin Regional. But none of that mattered today, as NU berat Texas 2-0 in the first round thanks to a stellar performance from pitcher Amy Letourneau. The 'Cats also got RBI singles from Marisa Bast (who is having a huge year) and Mari Majam. Now this could very well not turn into anything. For those unfamiliar with how the NCAA baseball and softball tournaments work, the 64 teams are divided into 16 groups of 4. Each regional has one seeded team (1 through 16) and that team hosts the regional. Only one team advances out of each regional. Basically, the only team that does not lose two games in the regional is the team that advances. Great start for the 'Cats, but they'll need to keep it going to make a super regional.
