Tuesday Random Thoughts and Picks

- Seth Davis continues to be the only voter for either poll who believes Northwestern is a top 25 team, as he had the 'Cats at #21 this week. He also offered this quote in his weekend roundup:

Northwestern's win over Illinois was critical because the Wildcats could end up competing with the Illini for an at-large bid. They lost in overtime in Champaign, and if they had been swept it would have been hard to overcome. I'm calling it right now: Northwestern is going to the tournament.

- Several different sites released their bracket projections yesterday, and the news mostly wasn't good for Northwestern. SI's Andy Glockner has them sneaking in as a #12 seed, SB Nation's Chris Dobbertean has them as the first team out, and Jerry Palm and Joe Lunardii both do not mention the 'Cats at all. Onto tonight's pick...

Season Records

Big Ten games: 14-12-2
Northwestern games: 9-2

Michigan State at Michigan (+4.5), 6 PM, ESPN

Tough game to pick here. Michigan State hasn't exactly been blowing away the competition recently, and they are going to lose a Big Ten game at some point. Michigan has been pretty good at home so far this year, and Manny Harris will be back in the lineup tonight, and for an in-state rivalry game you'd think Michigan will be giving it their all. Still, Michigan State has too much of an advantage in size, depth and athleticism.

Pick: Michigan State

I'll have a preview of tonight's NU-Minnesota game up soon, so stick around.
