Thursday Morning Random Thoughts and Picks

- Ohio State opened up a huge lead early in the 2nd half at Penn State, saw the lead cut to 2 with about 6 minutes left, but then Evan Turner took over and Penn State missed a bunch of free throws. allowing the Buckeyes to win by 8. Dallas Lauderdale was also a force blocking shots. Although Talor Battle finished with 22 points, he was less than impressive, chucking up several NBA-range threes early in the shot clock and trying to do too much. In Penn State's last two wins, Battle mostly looked to get his teammates involved, and had he done that last night his team may have pulled the upset. I was also amused by William Buford, who grabbed his crotch and pointed to the scoreboard as the Penn State students heckled him as he fouled out. Maybe in the future we'll see the Sam Cassell testicle dance out of him.

- Purdue grinded out a win at Minnesota, putting the Gophers on NCAA life support. The big story from the game though is a knee injury to Robbie Hummel. The severity of the injury is unclear, but Hummel appeared in pain and it's certainly possible he could be out for the season. In his absence, the much maligned Keaton Grant stepped up late and hit the game winning shot. Grant will need to keep playing well should Hummel have to miss a few games.

0-2 for me last night as I lost by a combined total of 2 points. Sadly, close doesn't count in gambling.

Wisconsin at Indiana (+12), 8 PM, BTN

I've gotten burned picking Indiana way too many times the last couple weeks, and even though I hate giving 12 points on the road in conference play, the Hoosiers have been absolutely terrible lately and figure to get blown out again.

Pick: Wisconsin

Overall Record: 38-36-2
Northwestern games: 14-4
