Tuesday Sips, featuring why Northwestern-Nebraska at Wrigley won't happen

Northwestern could play Nebraska at Wrigley Field in 2014! Except it probably won't happen... plus other stuff.

Bandying about the game at Wrigley, so let's shut up:

Wriggins Wrigs: There's a lot of talk today about Northwestern potentially meeting Nebraska at Wrigley Field in 2014. This talk seems dumb and premature for a few reasons: for one, that game is schedule for Oct. 4, so even assuming the inevitable fact that the Cubs don't make the playoffs - but Alfonso Soriano will only be 38! - that would probably give them around two days to turn Wrigley Field into a football stadium, which, nuh-uh. Second, and, uh, third, Teddy Greenstein made a pair of good points on Twitter: Wrigley Field's reconfiguration that will make college football more possible won't be finished by then. And Northwestern will be ill-advised to give up an almost certain home sellout against Nebraska by turning it into a neutral site game that would probably see revenue split to a greater extent with the Huskers. And fourth... uh... from the article proposing the idea itself...

"There have been no discussions (with Northwestern)," said Nebraska Athletic Director Tom Osborne on Monday.

Talking about Teddy Greenste...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz: Teddy's update from the Trib featured a bit about the introduction of Northwestern nap time, featuring an awesome quote from Kain Colter:

"Those hotel beds are really comfortable and the pillows are soft. … (Then) we'll come down refreshed and ready to kick some butt."

Yes, Northwestern will be napping before facing Nebraska due to the late start time. The theory is the last 2:30 start time was sloppily played because players' normal routines gear them for 11:00 a.m. start times and they're getting sluggish by the time kick rolls around at 2:30. So, naps it is! WE PLAY FOR NAPWESTERN!

Wilb-on, Wilb-off: Michael Wilbon talked about Northwestern in ways people noticed twice, once in a good way, once in a less good way: first is this cool piece telling Nebroskies what they need to know about Northwestern - you know, besides that they're 1-0 against Nebraska since they moved to the Big Ten. Second was his claim Florida isn't good enough at football to be No. 2, mainly based on the fact that Northwestern beat Vanderbilt in the non-conference, which is a little bit of a stretch.

MOTORIN': LTP had a nice post about last year's game-winning drive against Nebraska, where NU ran the ball over and over again against a team purportedly good at defense en route to a game-sealing touchdown. Fun read.

Tweet of the day: When Iowa guys take your side...
