2012 Center Chier Ajou Commits To Northwestern

Unfazed by the Mislav Brzjoa debacle, Bill Carmody and his staff added 7 foot 2 center Chier Ajou today, per a tweet from Scout's Chris Emma. Assuming Ajou can get through admissions, he will eligible to play this year.

Ajou is a great story; he was born and raised in Sudan and only came to the United States and began playing basketball in 2008. He initially committed to New Mexico in 2010 but the two parted ways for unknown reasons, and according to his AAU team's website, he chose Northwestern over Butler, and also received interest from Oklahoma, Cincinnati, and Central Connecticut State. He's also a first cousin of the Bulls' Luol Deng and former UConn big man Ajou Deng.

It's unclear how ready the raw Ajou will be for Big Ten play, but with his size he certainly has potential and should compete for playing time immediately at center along with Alex Olah and Nikola Cerina.

edit: Emma just tweeted that Ajou has been admitted to Northwestern, but still needs to be declared eligible by the NCAA.
