Huge recruiting news, as New Jersey point guard Jaren Sina has chosen Northwestern. Sina is one of the top-100 recruits in the class of 2013 by all accounts - No. 75 by ESPN, No. 90 by Rivals - and I believe the first four-star recruit in the Bill Carmody era. Both have the 6-foot-2 point guard from Gill St. Bernard's in Gladstone, NJ as a four-star guy.
The four-star recruit needed eight exclamation points on twitter to make the announcement:
Committed to NORTHWESTERN!!!!!! Wildcats Lets Goooo!!! #tooexcited
— Jaren Sina (@JarenSina) July 2, 2012
He's also already changed his twitter background to an N-Cat. Here's what ESPN has to say about him without Insider access.
Sina is a super skilled guard with a lethal jump shot. He has an effortless stroke that is virtually automatic when in rhythm from anywhere inside of 25 feet, is equally effective shooting off the catch or the dribble, and can also make tough contested shots
Woo! And Rivals has his handle listed as being "outstanding". This is quite a get. Fred Hill was the lead recruiter, flexing his New Jersey muscles, and getting Sina to pick NU over Villanova, Rutgers, Stanford, and Pittsburgh. He had earlier committed to Alabama, but reconsidered and now will be coming to NU.
The Wildcats will need good players in 2013-14 without Drew Crawford. Sina might be the answer there.
