Kyle Prater ruled eligible for Northwestern Wildcats' 2012 season

The NCAA on Tuesday gave the Northwestern Wildcats the answer they were long hoping for: WR Kyle Prater will be eligible for the 2012 season.

The 6'5", 215-pound Prater, a redshirt sophomore who transferred from USC, provides immediate help to what was already a very deep and talented wide receiver corps for the Wildcats -- best in the BigTen according to ESPN.com. While most transfers are required to sit out for a season, the NCAA granted him a "residence waiver" because he transferred for family reasons.

He redshirted his freshman year at USC in 2010, and in an injury-plagued 2011 season, he caught one pass for six yards. But Prater was a five-star recruit out of Proviso West, where he demolished his high school competition, and he is the most highly touted player to come to NU in a long, long time.

Should be some exciting times ahead for NU's passing attack.
