Northwestern Notebook 8/14: Kenosha

by Kevin Trahan (@k_trahan)

Northwestern began practicing in Kenosha this week and InsideNU was there for Monday's practice, as were a number of other media outlets. It was a dreary day on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, but NU was able to get both practices in without a thunderstorm setting in. Check out the best links from practice and some other odds and ends.

Chris Emma of has two practice reports from NU's two-a-day (subscribers only).

Emma also has a number of videos from practice, including Jack Konopka, Davion Fleming, Patrick Ward, Tyler Scott and Pat Fitzgerald.

Skip Myslenski has a practice report at

I have an article on the superbacks. It's a unit that has a lot of numbers, but not much experience.

Northwestern is looking for more from its ground game, writes's Brian Bennett.

ON a completely unrelated note, ESPN's Joe Lunardi released his summer bracketology for 2013 and... no Northwestern. Eamonn Brennan and Myron Medcalf debate the bracketology here and Brennan has some sympathetic words for NU fans:

And -- drum roll -- no Northwestern. Here's a kooky prediction. Get ready. Are you ready? OK, here goes: Northwestern won't make the NCAA tournament in 2013. But the Wildcats will tease their fans just enough to make it hurt when the bottom falls out in February again. God, those poor people.

Back to football, check out Purple Wildcats for a full practice report, but here are some quick notes:
- Treyvon Green was back at practice after a scary injury he suffered on Friday, but he did not participate in drills. He'll be back for the season.
- Jack Konopka is on to his third position at NU, as he is now an offensive tackle. He was a superback last fall and a guard in the spring.
- Venric Mark is in the mix to start at running back and looked really good at practice on Monday.
- The Big Ten Network will film NU's practice on Tuesday as part of its Big Ten Bus Tour. InsideNU will be there too, so make sure to check back tomorrow for more coverage.
