TEN.
HEEEEEEEE-HE EBBADEBBEDDAHEDDA DEBBA HONNNHEE, OH YEAH - (my interpretation of the first lyric of "Even Flow" as sung by Eddie Vedder - you try transcribing it better)
No. 10, Traveon Henry, freshman, safety
Who he be: Traveon - let's just call him "Trey" - is a safety out of Ft. Lauderdale. Well, actually, he was an RB in high school - ranked No. 33 in the nation by Rivals - but NU recruited the 6-foot-nothing player as a safety. He turned down a host of offers, including FSU, Boston College, Vandy, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Maryland, and other teams. YES, THERE'S A NINE-MINUTE VIDEO OF HIM BEING BETTER THAN HIS OPPONENTS:
He was also all-state in basketball, out of the same school Brandon Knight attended, and has a video for that, which makes me wonder... is there a spot for him on NU's team? No. Seriously. Point guard.
Looking forward: Trey obviously has a lot of talent, but it seems like he'll redshirt this year.
No. 10, Zack Oliver, RS Freshman, quarterback
Who he be: Zack is a QB outta Baton Rouge, a.k.a. home of a college football team deciding between Zack Mettenberger and Rob Bolden for the starting gig at QB, so Oliver clearly couldn't have helped, not even a little bit. Oliver was a three-star recruit but his offers were Sun Belt-y - Arkansas State, Western Kentucky, Tulane, Tulsa. YES, THERE'S A VIDEO OF HIM LOOKING BETTER THAN HIS OPPONENTS, via both his arm and legs:
I appreciate the brief clip of him talking with no sound at the beginning, not so much the Nickelback-esque band. Anyway, Oliver redshirted last season.
Players with two first names on NU's roster, in order of importance:
- Tyler Scott
- Zack Oliver
- Sean Oliver
Looking forward: Zack is NU's third-string. Hopefully, this means he sees little more action than some handoffs at the end of a blowout. He's not ready for prime time yet. He might have a chance at starting a few years down the road, but it's not assured him by any means.
