Northwestern vs. Vanderbilt Prediction/Preview Threadstravaganza!!!

Northwestern's home opener tomorrow! That means the thrilling beginning of another year of semi-crowded, but extremely exciting football! It's under the lights, which is awesome news unless you look at how Northwestern has done in recent games under the lights and then you start uncontrollably crying.

Anyway, after teh jumpz, me and the crew have our predix for Saturday's game. Leave yours in the comments and vote in the poll, or I'll come to your house and seduce your significant other, regardless of gender.

If it were a battle of cool uniforms, this game would end in a tie like Rodger's Words With Friends game because both are awesome. Unfortunately right now, even in a W.W.F. game, NU's defense would probably leave a triple word score open and get 41 points dropped on them with the word "Touchdown". On the other hand, Vanderbilt has Jordan Rodgers playing QB, not Aaron, so that is a positive and they only scored 13 points last week, albeit against #9 South Carolina. In the end, I don't think NU will be able to make enough adjustments in the secondary to pull it out and when in doubt, SEC is usually > B1G even though Vanderbilt isn't your typical SEC powerhouse.

Final Score: 31-28, Vanderbilt.

After Northwestern's first week struggles, I'm not sure how Vanderbilt is only favored by 3.5 in this game. Hooray home field advantage, I guess. The Vandy offense will score at least two touchdowns longer than 40 yards on the way to a comfortable road win.

In my season prediction, I said NU would go 2-2 in non-conference and look ugly early on. Well, I got the ugly part right. But screw my non-conference prediction. We're going to win this game and go 4-0 in non-conference. Why? Vanderbilt will be totally not expecting our Ryan Field home-field advantage, with 25,000 Nebraska fans turning out to cheer on Northwestern. The Commodores will be thoroughly confused by the stadium being full of red. "But Coach Franklin, your scouting report said Northwestern's colors were purple! What do we do, now? And, oh God! Is that a recording of a wildcat growl? Hold me, Aaron Rodgers' little brother." Kain Colter will throw for 200 yards and a TD, while also running for a TD. Trevor Siemien, not to be outdone, throws for 250 yards. And Zack Oliver gets into the action, too, throwing for 125 yards and a score. After the game, Fitz again downplays any QB controversy, saying walk-on P.J. Carollo will also get some snaps against Boston College, all part of a plan to keep Colter fresh.

Final score: 38-37, Northwestern. (Ed. note: Hey, he was right about NU winning a one-point game last week.)

Y'know, this is a favorable matchup for Northwestern: Vandy likes to run, Northwestern's decent at stopping the run, Northwestern likes to pass, Vandy is better at stopping run. The problem is I think the Commodores are better suited to adjust than Northwestern is. This secondary is bad, and Vandy's coaches have to know that. Jordan Rodgers won't have as successful a week as Ryan Nassib did last week, but he tosses two touchdowns to fellow Jordan, Jordan Matthews as Commodores have one of their biggest outputs of the season. Kain Colter plays the majority of the game and looks very good, but the defense lets him down.

Final score: Vanderbilt 41, Northwestern 38
