Northwestern football practice notes: Wednesday, October 30

Here are some notes and quotes from Wednesday’s practice:

-Quarterback Trevor Siemian looked more accurate and on point than he has lately, but take that with a grain of salt because practice pressure is nothing like game pressure.

-The team piped in artificial noise during practice to prepare for the loud atmosphere of Memorial Stadium in Nebraska this weekend. While the game-time atmosphere might be fierce, quarterback Kain Colter did praise the Nebraska fans for their sportsmanship. “They have a great fan base, real class act,” he said. “They love the competition, and they just want to see a good game. I think they commended us for how we played (after the game in 2011), how hard we played and it was a cool thing, something I hadn’t seen in any other stadium.”

-Cornerback Dwight White lost his starting job, but coach Pat Fitzgerald said he still has the opportunity to compete for the spot as well as play other roles on the team. “He’s in a competitive situation where every rep counts and he’ll have more roles,” Fitzgerald said. “There’s a ton of roles to go around and get him involved in the kicking game, he’s in a rotation at corner but right now those other two guys are starters for a reason. They’ve won the competition and that’s ongoing every single rep. I don’t see any wavering in Dwight’s confidence, you’ve just got to compete.”

-Colter is still bothered by an ankle injury, but he said it isn’t something unusual for this time of year. “Nobody’s 100 percent right now,” he said. “I’m probably not able to things I would be able to do at 100 percent but nobody’s at 100 percent at this point in the season. Everybody’s fighting through some kind of injury, bumps and bruises. That’s the game of football. You’ve got to suck it up and go out there and play.”

-You may be disappointed to hear that Fitz will not being dressing up for Halloween, except in the role of “dad,” he said. His kids, however, have some quality costumes: one will be a Dementor from the Harry Potter series, one will be Iron Man, and one will be Obi-Wan Kenobi from Star Wars.
