Northwestern field hockey wins Big Ten regular season title

No. 12 NU claims a share of the conference championship and goes into the B1G tournament as the No. 2 seed

Andy Lyons

Northwestern field hockey has had a major turnaround since head coach Tracey Fuchs was hired five seasons ago, and program won its first Big Ten conference title today since 1994.

At Lakeside Field, No. 12 Northwestern steamrolled Ohio State, 5-0, and when Michigan beat previously unbeaten Penn State, 2-1, in overtime, NU had won a share of the title. Both NU and Penn State finished 5-1 in the conference, but Penn State will be the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament in Columbus due to its head-to-head win over the Wildcats.

So, congrats to the Wildcats, as they now seek to seal a spot in the NCAA tournament and chase a Big Ten tournament title.  NU will face Ohio State again in the first round at 11:15 a.m. CT next Thursday.
