Wednesday sips, ft. Northwestern March Madness and Smash Mouth

Pat Fitzgerald and Stephen Colbert are fighting to be the face of Northwestern, Jeff Budzien might make the NFL, and Smash Mouth, you guys.

Hey y'all! I'm actually in Miami this week visiting my Jewish Cuban fam. The cool thing about working from home, though, is that I didn't give up the majority of my shifts, so I'm doing a lot of balcony blogging this week. Really living the lifestyle, you guys.

Anyway, stuff!

Northwestern and any sort of March Madness related thing = breaking news: I really liked NBN's March Madness bracket to crown the face of NU. We're a bit late on linking - they're already in the final round, which pits Stephen Colbert against coach Fitz but you can still go and vote.. Here's how NU sports people did in the polls, and why it's stupid that they lost:

Coach Fitz: Still alive

Luke Donald: won two rounds, lost to Willie the Wildcat (who is not a person)

Kain Colter: won two rounds, lost to Morty (I see Morty at every NU football game, never see Kain Colter at, like, Northwestern Board of Trustees meetings - who's cheering who here, y'all?)

Mike Wilbon: won two rounds, lost to Seth Meyers (PTI>SNL)

Kelly Amonte Hiller: won two rounds, lost to Stephen Colbert (Yeah, I guess I get that.)

Matt Grevers: won one round, lost to Willie the Wildcat (who still is not a person)

Drew Crawford: lost to George R.R. Martin in the first round. (GEORGE R. R. MARTIN. ARE Y'ALL KIDDING ME? NERDS. YOU ARE SUCH FRIGGIN NERDS AND I'M GONNA HIRE DRAGONS OR WHATEVER OTHER NERDY STUFF HAPPENS IN GAME OF THRONES NOVELS TO BURN DOWN YOUR STUPID NERDY HOUSES)

Venric Mark: Lost to Zach Braff in the first round (Word? Scrubs?)

Kendall Hackney: lost to Matt Grevers in the first round (#sprots)

Shannon Smith: lost to Kain Colter in the first round (#SPROTS)

#Budzien4Proza: We already knew Jeff Budzien is one of the best kickers in college, but is he good enough to go pro?

Making the NFL as a kicker is hard. Since dudes can kick for like 20 yardsI MEANT YEARS, there's only four or so open spots a year. I love kickers, so it'll be interesting to see how Budzien does this year. To make the NFL, he'll need to be able to handle kickoffs and prove he can consistently hit field goals of over 50 yards. We know he's accurate, but that won't cut it. The #Budzien4Groza campaign will remain strong, however.

Walkin on the #Drunj: I am so so so excited that Smash Mouth is coming for Dillo Day. (Yes, I'm going back to college for the first dillo day after I graduate, no, I don't care what you think, yes, I can pretend that I'm still in college if I try hard enough, no, other people do not think it is cool.) All I want out of Dillo Day artists is drunk nostalgia, and this will have it in droves.

Spilly does Chicago: Go read his Chicago hot dog and don't throw up!

Somebody thinks Northwestern will make a postseason basketball tournament: Somebody is wrong. I like the enthusiasm from a guy who used to cover NU hoops, though!
