Northwestern Football Recruiting Roundup, April 1

Check out the week that was in Northwestern recruiting, and as always, make sure to follow our recruiting board for updates.

Northwestern added safety Kyle Queiro to its class of 2013, but the Wildcats may soon be adding another Queiro — Kyle's brother, Cameron, a 2014 OLB. Cameron has an offer to NU and has been on campus a number of times, and NU is his clear leader. He said there's "an 80 percent chance" he ends up at NU.

“If I saw another atmosphere that really shocked me at another school, then I might change my mind," he said. "But the way I feel about the coaches and the people here [Northwestern], It’s probably going to stay my number one.”

To his mom, there's really no decision.

"My mom already considers me a Wildcat," he said.

2015 recruit Jashon Cornell is receiving interest from top programs like Michigan, Ohio State and Notre Dame, and he already has offers from Iowa and Minnesota, but he came to Northwestern for an unofficial visit and liked what he saw, specifically the academics and... "I really liked the jerseys," he said.

In a conversation with our own Chris Johnson, Cornell basically gave a recruiting pitch for Pat Fitzgerald:

Specifically, Cornell raved about the possibility of embarking on an internship in Chicago after his sophomore season, where a personal mentor would guide him through a trial at a business firm in the city. He frequently cited Chicago, and all its employment and diversionary opportunities, as one of the most attractive features of Northwestern – how it would allow him to pursue his academic goals while enjoying the benefits of a big city lifestyle.

He also talked about the Chicago factor:

“Being in downtown Chicago would be great,” he said. “It’s one of the top cities in the country. The campus is really nice, too.”

Cornell has a long ways to go with his recruitment, but he's already taken notice of many of the "non-football" things Pat Fitzgerald uses to sell his program.

Northwestern has major interest in 2014 OG J.B. Butler, but the Wildcats have yet to extend an offer. However, Butler knows he has to be patient and said that he would "probably" commit of NU offered.

The earliest said offer would come, Cushing told Butler, is after spring practice, which closes with Northwestern’s spring game on Saturday, April 13. Cushing has been open about Butler’s standing in Northwestern’s 2014 recruiting priorities. He has urged patience with Butler, telling him to wait things out while he meets with coaches and discusses personnel developments and roster construction. And Butler is more than willing to comply.

For another perspective, check out this article from a Purdue viewpoint, detailing Butler's interest in the Boilermakers.

Potential Northwestern recruit Chase Gianacakos committed to Michigan State today, as first reported by Scout.com's Allen Trieu. NU had interest, but had yet to offer him.
