Thursday Sips, ft. Northwestern fall football practice, plus United Center and more

Mainly we just want to look at pictures from training camp. But other things happened, like a game at the United Center for basketball and a former NU kid throwing a no-no.

Jonathan Daniel
It's Thursday!

Stuff from camp! You know you can't get enough of it. I think the real place to go for stuff, and a place I can't recommend highly enough, is Inside NU. Here's their Day 1 update, and here's their Day 2 update. Keep reading my site, though. PLEASE, KEEP READING MY SITE! I DO OTHER THINGS! I MAKE BALLOON ANIMALS! okay i don't make balloon animals but i'll give u a belly rub or something we can work it out.

Anyway, the big takeaway there is that Kyle Prater is looking good, albeit with the caveat that he still looks step-slow in full team action. I think that will always be the case, but HEY WAIT STOP TRYING TO JACK THE SWAGGER OF MY SATURDAY COUNTDOWN POST

However, the real star of the show has been the NUFBFamily Twitter and Instagram, like we wrote the other day. They're still killin it.

WOOOOO SUCK IT NET YOU THOUGHT WE COULDN'T THROW THE BALL INTO YOU BUT LOOK AT US NOW THERE'S THAT BALL RIGHT INSIDE OF YOU WOOOOOOOOOO KAIN AND TREV ARE KILLIN IT!!!!! FOOTBALL STOP NOT BEING HERE YET

/p>Opposing quarterbacks just ain't ready for that "run. Switch! AHHAHAHHHHHHHH!" defensive strategy.

I like that those are all players who are actually going to play, and not just like backup offensive linemen and stuff who look okay.

If you liked that tweet, you'll also like Teddy's article about "The Tower of Power," which even recent NU players (aka Dan Persa) say is completely transforming the guys they played with.

If u like photos, the Northwestern Football Facebook page is where to go.

#BUDZIEN4STARTINGQB! I started out hating NU sports for taking my Budzien 4 Groza jokes, but it's clear they're having just as much fun with this as I am:

DON'T BELIEVE THE HYPE (seriously I started believing the hype and am now hyperventilating into a paper bag): NU-OSU, the Trap Game of the Year per Pat Forde. Also, Kain Colter is the Big Ten's No. 14 player per ESPN, joining Tyler Scott on the list, and there's still Venric Mark to go. Three out of 25 ain't bad, son.

In case you're wondering, Kain Colter's No. 1 skill is his unselfishness, and not his football and stuff weird I didn't know. The cool tidbits are that he never goes into the receivers' room, he just knows how to do what they do, and that he had an internship at Goldman Sachs, which isn't fair.

I ain't no Jokisch: Former NU baseball player Eric Jokisch threw a no-hitter! Sure it was for the Tennessee Smokies in Double-A, but, still, a no-hitter is a no-hitter. Kid's gonna be on the Cubs one day. It makes up for me seeing a current NU pitcher give up six runs in .2 innings on the Cape, and for finding Arby Fields' minor league stats.

Because there aren't enough empty seats at Welsh-Ryan: Northwestern is planning a game at the United Center! Against who Teddy Greenstein says is a "big-time opponent." Kidding and Chicago's Big Ten Team humor aside, this would be awesome.

EXTENSHUUUUUUUUNNNN!: Seven of Northwestern's non-revenue coaches got extensions. But which ones?!?!?!?!?!??!!?!??!????? We have to wait to find out! Not huge news, but they're making a fun little game out of it. One is wrasslin coach Drew Pariano, who seems to be doing an incredible job from all evidence.
