Cornerback Alonzo Mayo committed to Northwestern on Friday.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder reportedly has also drawn scholarship offers from Vanderbilt, Army, Bryant, and Bucknell, among other programs, but had been hearing from Big Ten schools, including Maryland.

Mayo is teammates with fellow Wildcats 2015 commit Jelani Roberts at the Gilman School in Baltimore, Md.

According to this report from Chris Emma of Wildcat Digest, Mayo received his offer on Wednesday.

"Well, it was a no-brainer for me and my family," Mayo said. "You get a top-notch education and can play football at the highest level. You can't beat that. Plus, I've been close friends with (Northwestern 2015 commit) Jelani Roberts since we were kids, and with him already being committed, I didn't hesitate to do the same. I love what Coach Fitz has done with the program, so it wasn't a hard decision at all."

Mayo's pledge brings Northwestern's 2015 class to 17. Check out this highlight tape of him:
