What you should know

After three-star safety Jordan Thomas flipped to Oklahoma last month, it seemed likely Northwestern would try to add a defensive back. It got McGee to renege on his verbal commitment to UTSA, and the two-star safety officially visited Northwestern and will sign with the Wildcats on Wednesday.

Unlike Northwestern’s other signees, McGee will join the team next January. He is what’s called a “greyshirt,” a player who signs with a school but does not enroll until the second semester. McGee will take classes at a community college in the fall.

[Update: McGee has received a full scholarship now that Hamilton Anoa'i has decommitted.]

The 6-foot-1, 190-pound Mansfield, Tex., native recorded 64 tackles and two tackles for loss in 11 games for the Broncos last season. He is also a small forward on Mansfield’s basketball team.

Quotable

"You look at where the school stands academically, with their APR, the internships, graduate programs, it's tough to beat," McGee told Rivals. "Northwestern is in the Big Ten, they've gone to bowl games five of the last six years. It's just a great opportunity."
