What You Should Know

Oxley was one of Northwestern's first commits for the class of 2014, and he's also one of the most interesting commits in the entire group. At 6-foot-6, 245 pounds, Oxley looks like an offensive tackle, and originally, that's what he thought he would play in college, despite being open to the defensive side of the ball:

“They told me they want me at offensive or defensive line,” he said. “I see myself as more of an offensive lineman but I love playing on both sides of the ball.”

However, that changed after Oxley visited NU, and it looks like — for now — the Wildcats are going to have one very big defensive tackle.

“They said It’s probably going to be defensive tackle,” he said. “But that’s subject to change. Coming into it I was leaning towards offense, but after learning about the other side, I’ll play wherever.”

Pat Fitzgerald isn't afraid to change players' positions, so Oxley could very well end up on the offensive line if he fits better there. However, the Wildcats have done a good job recruiting the offensive line, so Oxley might provide more help on the defensive side.

Oxley is going to have to learn his new position, so that might hurt his chances of seeing the field right away, but he is certainly big enough to play early in his career. For that reason, he's one of the more intriguing prospects NU has.

Quotable

Once again (it's important) ...

“They said It’s probably going to be a defensive tackle,” Oxley told InsideNU. “But that’s subject to change. Coming into it I was leaning towards offense, but after learning about the other side, I’ll play wherever.”
