Simba Short commits to Northwestern

Northwestern picked up a commitment today from all-name team candidate Simba Short, a three-star safety/linebacker from De La Salle High School in Concord, Calif., according to Scout's Nick Medline.

Short chose the Wildcats over offers from Arizona State and Utah, and at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds. Northwestern likes to turn big safeties into linebackers, and Short figures to be the next Wildcat safety-to-linebacker transition, similar to Jimmy Hall and Joseph Jones on this year's team.

Short is the 10th commitment in Northwestern's 2015 class, which already ranked 20th nationally. Using the 247 Sports Class Calculator, the Wildcats should stay at No. 20, but distance themselves from No. 21 North Carolina and creep closer to No. 19 TCU. Check out Short's 247 profile and be sure to check out our 2015 Northwestern recruiting board and most recent "who to watch" update to see who could be next. The focus should move to offense — specifically the offensive line — where offensive guard Jared Thomas is emerging as one of the Wildcats' top targets.
