Here are some notes from Pat Fitzgerald's post-game press conference.
- Fitz: "I think we took a positive step in the right direction today."
- "I thought our offensive line and defensive line probably played their best games of the year."
- Fitz to PSU guy: "I don't know how much you've seen us play this year, but we weren't very good on offense." He also said the depth offensively helped them go faster.
- Fitz: "Our plan offensively was to keep Hack on the sideline."
- Fitz doesn't bite specifically on whether Anthony Walker will get more playing time. "Maybe now with the way Anthony played, we will (rotate linebackers more)."
- When Matthew Harris was going off the field, Fitz said he was saying "go win it, go win it." Fitz told him to relax.
- Fitz on Siemian: "He's got to set his feet better on some of those overthrows." That was a problem after the first quarter.
- Fitz seems really excited about the young guys on defense.
- Fitz said he thought the Harris return was a fumble and simultaneous possession.
- On the fake field goal: "Golllyyyy ... pitch the ball, guys."
- This one means a lot to Fitz. Penn State was his only Big Ten loss in NU's miracle stretch during the 1990s.
- Fitz said Ifeadi Odenigbo is starting to "take the next step." He also said he couldn't believe nobody was recruiting Xavier Washington. Though it did lead to him talking about recruiting rankings being misleading, which is obviously untrue.
