Blake Gallagher, a 6-foot, 220-pound linebacker from Needham, Mass., has committed to Northwestern. Gallagher, a high school junior, announced his commitment Monday on Twitter:

Gallagher is Northwestern's first pickup of the 2017 recruiting class. He chose Northwestern over offers from Nebraska, North Carolina, Duke, Pittsburgh, Maryland, Boston College and Virginia.
Gallagher, who attends Saint Sebastian's School, is rated as a three-star prospect by 247 Sports, with a composite score of 0.8678. He is the 12th-ranked inside linebacker in his class, and the No. 2 player in the state of Massachusetts in his class.
