Nick Segura "taking some time away" from the team

The walk-on has rarely played this year.

Northwestern freshman walk-on Nick Segura is not currently with the Wildcats' basketball team, the athletic department confirmed to Inside NU on Monday, saying that he "is taking some time away from the team for personal reasons." Segura was not on the bench for NU's win over Iowa on Sunday.

Segura played in just two games this season, accumulating three minutes and one point this season. He is the third straight walk-on to leave the team, following Aaron Liberman and Omar Jimenez. Liberman transferred to Tulane, while Jimenez is still in school at NU, pursuing a journalism degree. Before that, Reggie Hearn turned into a star after initially walking on to the program.

There is no word on whether Segura will eventually return to the team. This does not affect NU's recruiting efforts, since Segura was not on scholarship. The Wildcats still have 12 scholarship players this season and will have one spot open for next season.
