5-star QB really likes ... Northwestern?

Well that's something.

Student Sports

Northwestern has never had a five-star commit to the program out of high school, as Ifeadi Odenigbo was a four-star and Kyle Prater originally went to USC as a five-star before transferring. However, there's a chance that could change in a couple years.

The Oregonian profiled five-star quarterback prospect Shawn Robinson, a Texas native and a member of the class of 2017 (so heading into his junior season). The school he wants to hear from more? Northwestern.

"It's not a big-time program, but Northwestern," he said. "I grew up liking them and I like them still."

...

Being "the guy" to lift a program, for him, is every bit as intriguing as joining a long line of stars at one of college football's elite programs.

"That does excite me, knowing that could happen. That sounds pretty cool," he said. "It's something that could happen, but at the end of the day it's all about relationships with the coaches and feeling like it's home."

Given that Robinson already has offers from Arizona State, Baylor, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, TCU and Texas, among others, Pat Fitzgerald clearly has his work cut out for him here. However, this is pretty encouraging news for a program like NU, and Robinson's style seems like it would fit well in the Wildcats' offense.

Here's a look at Robinson's sophomore year highlights:
