Northwestern injury update: Shuler out, North active but only in emergency

Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

EVANSTON — Northwestern wide receiver Miles Shuler is out for Northwestern's Week 2 game against Eastern Illinois.

Shuler was listed as questionable on Northwestern's Week 2 injury report, but will not play. His injury is unknown. Shuler was nagged by injuries for much of last year, so his absence is somewhat worrying. Mike McHugh will start in his place.

Brad North is essentially out as well, but is in uniform. North will serve as Northwestern's emergency center. Ian Park will move over to center in his place, and Connor Mahoney will start at left guard. J.B. Butler will be the backup center.

With right tackle Eric Olson out, Adam DePietro will start at right tackle.

Defensive tackle Greg Kuhar will apparently play his first game of the season after missing last week. Kuhar, a junior, was in the final stages of his recovery from an ACL injury suffered against Notre Dame last September.

Wide receiver Cam Dickerson remains out for Northwestern as well. Starting in his place will be Austin Carr — who was awarded a scholarship this week — but expect to see an extensive rotation at receiver.

UPDATE: In the first quarter, Adam DePietro went down with an injury. He was helped off the field, and appeared to be unable to put any weight on his right leg. Blake Hance replaced DePietro on the next drive.
