EVANSTON — Nia Coffey, Northwestern women's basketball's star forward, left Thursday night's game against No. 5 Ohio State with an apparent ankle injury early in the fourth quarter and did not return.
Northwestern was on offense when Coffey fell awkwardly after receiving a pass from Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah. Coffey did not get up as Northwestern turned the ball over and play continued. She was immediately substituted from the game and started receiving treatment on her left ankle on the bench.
Coffey, a junior, did not return and had an ice-pack on her left ankle with her leg up on Northwestern's bench late in the game. It appears she will not return to the game.
Even without Coffey for much of the fourth quarter, Northwestern held on for a huge upset over the 5th-ranked Buckeyes, 86-82.
More updates on Coffey to come after the game.
