Northwestern vs. Ohio State GameThread

The Wildcats and Buckeyes square off in what might be a January bubble game.

Caylor Arnold-USA TODAY Sports

Northwestern is all set to take on Ohio State Wednesday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena in a game that, come March, could be looked back upon as a momentous one in the Big Ten.

The Wildcats (13-2, 1-1 Big Ten) are coming off a loss to No. 4 Maryland in which they were overwhelmed in the first half, and perhaps shocked by Maryland's athleticism. They'll face another physically imposing team in the Buckeyes (10-5, 2-0 Big Ten) Wednesday.

Ohio State is rolling now after sputtering in November. The Buckeyes have won six straight, including a neutral site victory over Kentucky.

Both teams are well on the outside looking in of Joe Lunardi's latest bracketology, meaning we could be looking at an early January bubble game.

It should be another great night at Welsh-Ryan. The atmosphere was outstanding on Saturday against Maryland, despite many students still being away from campus for winter break. Welsh-Ryan should be loud once again, albeit with a little more red as well.
