To say it has been an underwhelming start to the season for the Northwestern Wildcats (1-3, 0-1 Big Ten) would be an understatement. The road doesn't get easier for Pat Fitzgerald's bunch as it heads to Iowa City to take on the Iowa Hawkeyes (3-1, 1-0), a team Northwestern has a three-game losing streak against.
Last Saturday, the Wildcats lost 24-13 to Nebraska in Evanston as a pair of Clayton Thorson interceptions doomed Northwestern. Two Cornhuskers red zone fumbles made the final score a little closer than the actual play indicated. As for Iowa, the Hawkeyes eked by Rutgers 14-7 despite a fairly unconvincing performance on both sides of the ball. Iowa was just 3-for-11 on third down conversions and allowed over 190 yards rushing to the Scarlet Knights.
Iowa has had Northwestern's number as of late and the Wildcats are still looking for their first full solid 60-minute effort of the season. That doesn't bode well for the road team, as Iowa's experience -- especially in the backfield with LeShun Daniels Jr. and Akrum Wadley -- and talent edge gives the Hawkeyes the advantage on Saturday late morning/early afternoon.
