Northwestern will get a boost to its much depleted secondary today against Iowa with the return of both safety/slot cornerback Kyle Queiro and cornerback Alonzo Mayo, a program spokesperson confirmed.

Queiro has missed the past two games for the Wildcats, with Jared McGee starting in his place. Parrker Westphal also saw significant action with Queiro gone. The junior can play safety and move down to the slot cornerback position when the defense goes to its sub-packages.

Mayo, a redshirt freshman, got hurt in the Illinois State game and missed the past two contests as well. He should see some significant action in sub-packages and on special teams.

The defensive backfield has been hit hard with injuries. Top cornerback Matthew Harris remains out with an upper body injury, and Montre Hartage and Trae Williams have been up-and-down in his absence. These returns, though, should provide the secondary with some depth as well as some veteran leadership from Queiro.
