Another week, another tough blow to the Northwestern secondary. Redshirt freshman Trae Williams, who has started since Week 3 alongside Montre Hartage, is listed as doubtful for Northwestern’s game versus Indiana.
The cornerback position has been absolutely decimated by injury this year. Keith Watkins tore his ACL in the preseason and Matt Harris has been out with a head injury since Week 2. If Williams is unable to play, it appears as if Alonzo Mayo, who has been up-and-down at best, will get the start. True freshmen Roderick Campbell and Brian Bullock could also see significant action.
Meanwhile, senior captain Connor Mahoney remains out. He missed last week’s game versus Michigan State. J.B. Butler will get his second straight start at left guard in his absence.
In a positive development, Xavier Washington will return to the lineup after missing last week’s game. Washington will join a defensive end rotation that includes Ifeadi Odenigbo, C.J. Robbins, Alex Miller, Joe Gaziano and Trent Goens.
