COLUMBUS, Ohio - Following three straight wins, the Northwestern Wildcats (4-3, 3-1 Big Ten) face their toughest test of the season Saturday, as they visit No. 6 Ohio State. The Buckeyes (6-1, 3-1) suffered their first loss of the 2016 campaign last week, falling to Penn State in Happy Valley.
For the Wildcats, the difference over the last few weeks has been an explosive offense. Quarterback Clayton Thorson has developed a strong connection with senior wide receiver Austin Carr, who leads the Big Ten in every major receiving category. His ability to take advantage of matchups with linebackers out of the slot has enabled Northwestern to pick up easy chunks of yards through the air.
On the other side of the ball, Northwestern will have to contain the rushing and aerial talents of Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett. Barrett presents a unique challenge for any defense due to his dual-threat abilities, forcing opposing linebackers and defensive ends, especially, into challenging choices.
