Northwestern linebacker Cameron Queiro is retiring from football

The redshirt sophomore announced his decision on Facebook Sunday evening, citing multiple concussions.

Northwestern linebacker Cameron Queiro has made the decision to retire from football, according to a personal Facebook post of his on Sunday evening. Quiero cited multiple concussions throughout his career as the reason for the decision.

Here is his full statement:

Queiro, a backup linebacker out of Verona, NJ, redshirted his freshman year in Evanston and saw playing time in each of the last two seasons. He collected a tackle for loss against Eastern Illinois in 2015 and had two tackles this season.

Quiero is the younger brother of Northwestern junior safety Kyle Queiro. He becomes the second Wildcat this season to retire from football due to concussions, after cornerback Matthew Harris did so in late October.
