Austin Carr added another honor to his impressive senior season resume, earning second-team All-American honors from USA Today.
The former walk-on recorded 84 catches for 1196 yards and a school-record-tying 12 touchdowns this season. He led the Big Ten in all three categories by a significant margin and was by far Northwestern’s best and most dependable receiver, lining up both outside and in the slot.
Zay Jones of East Carolina joins Carr on the second team. Corey Davis of Western Michigan and Dede Westbrook of Oklahoma were first-teamers.
Carr was a Biletnikoff finalist, a Sports Illustrated second-teamer, an Associated Press third-teamer, a Big Ten first-teamer and the Howard-Richter Big Ten Receiver of the Year. He’s also a philanthropist, singer and so much more, as our Martin Oppegaard wrote back in late September.
Carr was knocked out of the Minnesota game after a hit to the head and appeared limited in the season finale against Illinois, though he was able to play. He should be fully prepared for Northwestern’s game against the Pittsburgh Panthers in the Pinstripe Bowl.
