It's a battle of the felines tonight in Welsh-Ryan Arena as the Northwestern Wildcats (7-2) host the Chicago State Cougars (6-3) hoping to pick up one more win ahead of a hugely important contest against the Dayton Flyers.
The Wildcats come in on a four-game win streak and have every reason to be very confident heading into this matchup against Tracy Dildy's squad. The Cougars have been blown out several times this season and are ranked 337th in Division I by Kenpom. The hosts, meanwhile, are ranked 39th.
Sophomore guard Fred Sims, Jr. leads the way for the Cougars in the scoring column at 17.9 points per game. Behind him is senior Trayvon Palmer, who scores 14.4 points per game and adds in 8.8 rebounds per game, by far the best mark on the team. Joining those two in double figures is Clemmye Owens V, a Bethune-Cookman transfer now in his second season as a Cougar. Owens V averages 10.8 points per game.
Chris Collins will hope to see continued development from his center position in Dererk Pardon's absence, consisting of true freshman Barret Benson and junior Gavin Skelly. Outside shooting will be key too, as the Wildcats will hope to continue to hit on the deep ball heading into the Dec. 17 matchup with the Flyers at the United Center.
