McGowan, out of Dalton High School in Dalton, Georgia, picked the Wildcats over a host of other schools, including Power Five teams Duke, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt and Wake Forest.
The 5-foot-10, 183-pound McGowan is a three-star recruit with a 247 Composite score of .8265.
Although McGowan is listed at both defensive back and wide receiver, he will play on the offensive side of the ball in Evanston. He has experience at running back as well and looks to be very explosive with the ball in his hands. This is Northwestern’s 18th commit in the Class of 2017.
Northwestern entered June with no wide receivers but now has three with McGowan joining local recruit Jace James and California product Berkeley Holman. Fitzgerald’s class of 2017 now comes in at sixth in the Big Ten and 23rd in the nation.
