Gameday No. 2 of the 2016 season has arrived, and the Illinois State Redbirds are in town to take on the Northwestern Wildcats for a 2:30 p.m. CT kickoff at Ryan Field.
Northwestern is looking to rebound from a slow start, having fallen 22-21 last week against Western Michigan. Illinois State, meanwhile, comes in after destroying Valparaiso 50-13 to start the year. Brock Spack, who was a standout linebacker for Purdue back in the 1980s, has built the Redbirds into a consistent title contender in the FCS. They played in the FCS championship two years ago and went to the semifinals in 2015. Spack has compiled a 57-29 record in Normal over the course of seven years and one game.
Northwestern will look to impose its will against this FCS opponent, though, and getting out of the gates quickly will certainly help it do that. Northwestern must be much better in the trenches.
