Another day, another very tough injury announcement for the Northwestern Wildcats. This time it’s starting safety Kyle Queiro who has been announced out for the Duke game. Here’s the full injury report.
Northwestern Football Injury Report
OL Ben Oxley - OUT
S Kyle Queiro - OUT
Northwestern really could not have afforded yet another injury to the secondary, yet that’s exactly what has happened. Queiro has been extremely valuable not only as a safety but also as a swing corner when Northwestern went into its sub-packages. With him out, it’s anyone’s guess as to who will play nickel corner. The Wildcats are already without Matthew Harris and Alonzo Mayo for at least this game and Keith Watkins for the year after a preseason ACL tear. Jared McGee will step into Queiro’s place—McGee had an interception against Illinois State and has significant experience—but again, who steps up as that third corner is a mystery. Northwestern has virtually no experience at cornerback. Starters Montre Hartage (two starts) and Trae Williams (no starts) are backed up by true freshmen Roderick Campbell and Brian Bullock. This secondary is scrambling.
Oxley missed last week with an injury and will be out this week as well.
