Anyanwu picked up his offer January 19 and committed on Jan 21 during his visit to Evanston, decommitting from Richmond, where he had been committed since September 26.
Though officially listed as an “athlete” by 247Sports, Anyanwu will play SAM linebacker for the Wildcats, per Wildcat Report. At 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds, the high school safety will have to add some weight, but his speed, and especially his closing speed, is really impressive. His tackling ability in the open field and aggressiveness playing downhill show why Pat Fitzgerald and his staff believe he’ll be a good fit as a linebacker.
Anyanwu was limited to six games this year due to a hamstring injury. He chose Northwestern over aforementioned Richmond as well as Charlotte, Mercer, Miami (Ohio), Middle Tennessee State, Ohio, UAB, Wake Forest and Western Michigan. He’s not ranked on 247 or Rivals, but his injury may have contributed to that. Anyanwu hails from the same high school as current Wildcat wide receiver Steven Reese.
