Background
Kuhbander has been highly touted by many national recruiting websites: Kohl’s Kicking, 247 and ESPN all have him as a top 10 kicking prospect for 2017. Here’s what Kohl’s Kicking had to say about him:
“Kuhbander has attended multiple Kohl's events in the winter of 2016. He shows elite level leg strength and explosiveness. His FG repeatability off the ground has improved and he is in line to be one of the top players in the 2017 class. Kuhbander has special talent and seems to be a natural kicker with a special leg.”
The Springboro, OH native has shown the ability to nail kicks from the 45-50 yard range, and consistently kicked the ball through the end zone for touchbacks on kick offs (though kick offs were from 40 yard line in high school; they’re from the 35 in college). He also punted in high school.
Outlook
With Jack Mitchell and Matt Micucci gone, Kuhbander will have every opportunity to compete to be the team’s starting kicker. Mason Weissenhoffer and Drew Luckenbaugh are also in the program, but it’s difficult to say who will win the job at this point. Kuhbander could punt in a pinch, but Hunter Niswander figures to have the punting position locked up.
