The Northwestern Wildcats sure are building up their speed at the linebacker position. Three-star linebacker Jaylen Rivers was the third player to sign his LOI for the Wildcats during Early Signing Period 2017.
An explosive linebacker from one of the best high schools in Georgia, we're excited to officially add @julio8hunnid to the family. #NUView18 | #B1GCats pic.twitter.com/eKAclHibgk

His highlights certainly feature that explosiveness. Northwestern doesn’t usually get many recruits from Georgia, so this is a great get for the Wildcats.
Our own linebacker @coachfitz51 calls @julio8hunnid an "explosive" 'backer. Welcome the Decatur, Ga., native to the #B1GCats! pic.twitter.com/kKVtIkuWYn

His speed as a coverage linebacker can be seen throughout his highlight tape. He has a 4.66 40-yard dash time listed. Pat Fitzgerald and Mike Hankwitz have experimented with hybrid linebackers such as Nate Hall, and Rivers’ ability to play anywhere should be valuable for Northwestern’s scheme and style.
