After a hard-fought loss to No. 23 Maryland on Tuesday, Northwestern (19-7, 8-5 B1G) squares off against Rutgers (13-14, 2-12 B1G) at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
Northwestern fell short in its last outing due to an explosive performance from Maryland’s Melo Trimble. The Wildcats will be hoping to bounce back against a Rutgers side they defeated 69-60 in Piscataway on January 12.
Luckily, Northwestern’s leading scorer Scottie Lindsey could be available for tonight’s game after missing the previous four games with an illness. It will be interesting to see how active Lindsey is in this game following his long layoff.
Rutgers has already doubled its number of conference wins from last season under new head coach Steve Pikiell. However, the Scarlet Knights have lost its last thee contests and are coming off a 19-point loss at Purdue.
If Northwestern’s quest for 20+ wins and an NCAA Tournament berth will continue, Northwestern needs to take care of business at home this evening. Another conference win would improve Northwestern’s chances to finish fourth in the Big Ten, as it is currently tied with Michigan State at 8-5.
