The Wildcats’ loss to Illinois drops them one spot among the consensus.

NCAA Basketball: Northwestern at Illinois Mike Granse-USA TODAY Sports

Northwestern’s loss to Illinois has pushed the Wildcats down at least one spot in most bracketologists’ most recent projections. Chris Collins and co. will hope to right the ship this weekend against Indiana.

Here’s where some of the top predictors have the Wildcats.

ESPN: 9 seed

It was not long ago that Joe Lunardi had Northwestern sitting pretty as a seven seed. Now, the Wildcats have fallen to a nine in the most recent update. In Lunardi’s projection, Northwestern would travel to Buffalo and meet the Miami Hurricanes in the East region.

1-3-1 Sports: 9 seed

The 1-3-1 team has Northwestern headed to Salt Lake City as a nine seed. The Wildcats would meet the Xavier Musketeers in this scenario. Their most recent update came on February 23.

Nick Tursi’s Best Damn Bracket Period: 9 seed

Hey, if Nick Tursi is going to have the confidence to deem his bracket the “best damn bracket period,” we might as well include him. Like Lunardi, Tursi has Northwestern headed to Buffalo, but he has the Wildcats making their NCAA Tournament debut against the Virginia Commonwealth Rams.

Brett Siegel Bracketology: 9 seed

In his most recent update, Siegel has Northwestern headed to Greenville, South Carolina as the nine seed in the South region. There, it would face the Dayton Flyers in a rematch from earlier in the year. Northwestern jumped out to an enormous lead in that game in the United Center and hung on for a 67-64 win.

Northwestern is included in all 117 projections on Bracket Matrix with an average seeding of 8.15. Of course, a lot of projections haven’t been updated since the Wildcats’ loss in Champaign, so it’s important to factor that in.
