After demolishing Rutgers 83-61 on Thursday night, the Northwestern Wildcats (21-10, 10-8 Big Ten) are back in action Friday, taking on the Maryland Terrapins (24-7, 13-5 Big Ten) at the Verizon Center in the Big Ten tournament quarterfinals.
Northwestern, which earned the No. 6 seed in the conference tournament, went on an unprecedented 31-0 run against the Scarlet Knights on Thursday night to seize control and never look back. The Wildcats also didn't need to play any of their starters extensive minutes after taking the big lead, which should help against a Maryland team that earned a double bye and will be not only very well-rested but also backed by a partisan Terrapin crowd.
Chris Collins has never defeated Maryland during his tenure at the helm at Northwestern, but he has had several close calls in both College Park and in Evanston. It wasn't close earlier this season when Melo Trimble's 32 points led the Terrapins to a 74-64 win at Welsh-Ryan Arena, but Scottie Lindsey also didn't play in that game.
