UPDATE: Please use the comments below as a livethread when it starts at 8 p.m. CST.
On Monday night, former Northwestern football player Anthony Battle will participate in the season premiere of The Bachelorette. Battle and 30 other bachelors will compete for the love of Rachel Lindsay, a 31-year-old lawyer who was the runner-up in the last season of The Bachelor.
If you usually come here for “real sports talk” and have no idea what any of this, read this helpful Wikipedia article.
Normally, we wouldn’t cover reality television on Inside NU, but these are extraordinary circumstances. We have an Inside NU Bachelorette Fantasy League, where you can a $20 Amazon gift card. We will provide as much coverage of this television event as we can, and we hope Anthony gets out of the first round.
Battle, in addition to being a former Northwestern defensive lineman, has a BA in English Literature and knows five languages. Can’t top that well-rounded Northwestern education. He’s already five steps ahead in the championship of life.
As for Battle’s chances, the hype is real. SB Nation’s Bachelorette expert Charlotte Wilder predicted Anthony to win in her column last week:
“Anthony wins. He taught in Indonesia and we know he knows how to read, because he says a Haruki Murakami book is his favorite. I also know someone he used to work with, and she says he’s a good guy, so it’s Anthony’s basket into which I’m putting all my eggs.”
That’s as good an endorsement as anyone can get! Hopefully Battle turns out to be more successful at winning Rachel’s heart than Toru Okada from The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle.
