Shockingly, Northwestern baseball has run through the Big Ten Tournament and with a 6-5 win over Maryland earlier today, is now in the championship game against Iowa at Bart Kaufman Field in Bloomington. The game is set for 12:30 p.m. CT.
The team’s midseason turnaround in Spencer Allen’s second year in Evanston has been nothing short of spectacular, and the Wildcats are on the verge of doing something the program hasn’t done since 1957: Make the NCAA Tournament.
Northwestern also hasn’t been in the Big Ten final since 1984, so this is kind of a grab-bag of historical achievements for the program. The Wildcats have never won the Big Ten Tournament, which began in 1981.
We don’t have any information on lineups or a potential pitcher just yet, but Northwestern did take two of three from the Hawkeyes at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park back in early April. Iowa beat Maryland, Nebraska and Minnesota to reach the championship game.
Heck, we’ll make it a gamethread too, so if you’re following along, let’s talk about in the comments below.
