NCAA women’s lacrosse bracket: Northwestern to play Albany in first round of Tournament

Northwestern will head to Stony Brook to play Albany.

Northwestern women’s lacrosse received an at-large bid to the NCAA Women’s Lacrosse Championship and will play Albany in the first round on May 12. The NCAA released the full bracket Sunday night:

Northwestern is in No. 8 seed Stony Brook’s quarter and in No. 1 Maryland’s side of the bracket. Maryland just defeated Northwestern 14-6 in the Big Ten Championship Game on Sunday afternoon.

Northwestern went 10-9 in the regular season. Despite looking like a top-ten team at times during the season, especially in wins over Notre Dame, Penn State and Duke, Northwestern has struggled at times and had bad luck in close games. Most of this season came without star attacker Selena Lasota. The Wildcats have struggled to be consistent on offense without Lasota and Kahleah Craig.

Albany went 12-5 in the America East this season. The Great Danes played Syracuse close and took care of business against the dregs of the conference, but hasn’t beaten a good team this year. Northwestern should be heavily favored in this matchup.

If Northwestern does advance, it will have a chance at revenge against Stony Brook, a team that beat Northwestern 13-5 in Hempstead earlier this season.

The time for the game has not been released yet. It does not look like the game will be televised.
