Northwestern and Colorado will play a two-game, home-and-home football series in 2026 and 2027, according to a release from Northwestern Athletic Communications.
Colorado will visit Ryan Field on September 19, 2026. Northwestern will play in Boulder on September 11, 2027. Mark your calendars now so you don’t forget!
When the two schools meet in 2026, it will be for the first time in 48 years. Colorado destroyed Northwestern 55-7 back in 1978 as the Wildcats went winless in Rick Venturi’s first season (Venturi was 1-31-1 in three seasons). Before that, you have to go back to 1951, when Northwestern took down Colorado 35-14 under Bob Voigts.
Northwestern has plenty of ties to the Colorado program. Defensive coordinator Mike Hankwitz has spent over 10 seasons with the Buffaloes in his career. Of course, former Northwestern coach Gary Barnett left Evanston to take over at Colorado in 1999 and had a graduate assistant by the name of Pat Fitzgerald that season.
Anyways, carry on with your day. If you have a 9-12 year-old son, they might get to play in this series!
The 2017 season kicks off in less than three weeks.
